(CNN) -- The United States will unveil its final 23-man roster on Wednesday for next month's soccer World Cup in South Africa.
Coach Bob Bradley will cut seven from his provisional squad, having run the rule over several fringe players in Tuesday night's 4-2 defeat by the Czech Republic.
The U.S. will take on England, Slovenia and Algeria in the first round of the tournament, which kicks off June 11. It is the United States' sixth consecutive World Cup appearance.
Tournament rules require that countries submit their roster to soccer's world governing body FIFA by June 1.
After the rosters are finalized, a team may replace an injured player up to 24 hours prior to the first match of the tournament. However, the replacement player does not have to be selected from the 30-man preliminary list.
Before heading to South Africa, the team plays its final home match against Turkey on May 29 in Philadelphia.
Tuesday's friendly in Connecticut saw Bradley rest first-choice stars such as Landon Donovan, Tim Howard, Clint Dempsey, Carlos Bocanegra and Jozy Altidore.
"We learned some things tonight. Obviously we're not happy with the score, but we'll keep working now," Bradley told reporters in quotes carried by FIFA's Web site.
Midfielder Maurice Edu put the U.S. ahead from close range in the 18th minute as he continued his comeback from a long layoff, but the Czechs leveled just before halftime as Tomas Sivok climbed above Oguchi Onyewu -- who has also been sidelined for several months -- to head home.
Bradley made five changes at halftime, but it was the visitors who continued to press as David Lafata had a goal ruled out for offside and then set up Jan Polak to make it 2-1 on 58 minutes.
Hercules Gomez, who plays for Mexican club Pachuca, made it 2-2 with a header seven minutes later, but the Czechs went ahead again through Martin Fenin on 77 and Tomas Necid wrapped up victory right at the end.
